The Oregon Trail:

Take a road trip across Nebraska and travel back in time to the 1840's as you experience one of the most influential eras in American history: The Oregon Trail.
From Lincoln, head west to Fort Kearny to restock, rest up, and take in some sustenance. You'll follow the North Platte River to California Hill, your first major challenge on the Oregon Trail. As you ascend the hill, you'll see wagon ruts that have been pristinely preserved in the hillside for nearly 200 years.
But the challenges are only beginning. Just 20 miles past California Hill, you'll need to descend Windlass Hill - a staggering 47% grade. At the bottom of the hill, catch your breath at Ash Hollow Spring, a popular "rest stop" on the Oregon Trail that provided settlers with a source of pure, clean drinking water.
Continue on to Courthouse and Jail Rock, as well as Chimney Rock, before ending your journey across Nebraska at Scottsbluff National Monument, just a stone's throw from the Wyoming border.

A trail for beginners. Try the Hastings Cutoff for some real adventure...and finger food.
ReplyDeleteOK, Jim - just looked up the Hastings Cutoff. Think I'll pass on the finger food.... :o)
DeleteTurn down the music a bit. I had trouble hearing the narrator at times.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that Jim, I have no control over the volume - that is set by the YouTube video, Sometimes i have to use the close captioning when that happens. :o)
