Woody Woodpeckers

He usually comes and visits every day - must be some good bugs in that 'ol stump!

Benji just kept watching him (The baseball bat is used to scare the hawks away)

Later in the day, when  they had enough of outside the pen and went back in by themselves

 (for a change!):

 Lilacs!

Hubby had to cut the grass again because of all the rain:

  1. Pileated woodpeckers love carpenter ants. i happened to stop on the side of the road to eat lunch one day, and Watched a Pileated tear half the bark off of a Doug fir stump about 30 inches in diameter, and 3 feet tall. And then proceed to scarf up a bunch of carpenter ants and larvae.in short order.

    1. Thanks for the tip! I'll go look at that stump tomorrow - it's been there for a few years!
